Health Policy Aims At Comprehensive Healthcare For People


New Delhi, 22 Jan 2018: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said that the National Health Policy 2017 aimed at providing healthcare to all people in a comprehensively integrated manner. He was speaking at a function to dedicate the Karnataka Government Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Hospital held at the District Offices Complex.
 
Nadda said that the policy laid emphasis on providing on all systems of medicine. It stressed the importance of both government and private sectors in the field of healthcare. The Union government wanted to strengthen the healthcare sector. The policy was both patient-centric and quality-driven. It provided a policy framework for achieving universal health coverage and providing quality healthcare services to all at an affordable cost.
 
The government was giving importance to the health of mother and child. There has been a reduction in infant mortality. The interests of pregnant women had been taken into account. On the ninth of every month, gynaecologists working in the private sector check the health of pregnant women. This had given good results.
 
Under the Amrut Deen Dayal Scheme of the Union government, branded medicines and healthcare service was being made available at half the rates. The Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Hospital should become a model for other hospitals. It was essential to provide free and quality healthcare to the poor,  Nadda said.
 
Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, said that the hospital had 200 beds and it would provide quality healthcare to mothers and children free.
