Drug Seized From Bus, One Person Arrested

KALPETTA, 6 JUNE 2018: A team of excise officials seized 695 painkiller tablets from a traveller at the excise checkpost in Tholpetty on the Kerala-Karnataka border on Wednesday morning.


M. Sudeep, 32, of Manikoth at Puthiyara Kasaba in Kozhikode district was arrested while he was transporting Spasmo Proxyvon Plus and Pyeevon Spas, two types of painkillers that contain Tramadol, a narcotic drug, from Mysuru to Kozhikode in a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus, M.K. Sunil, Excise Inspector, Mananthavadi, said here.


The accused revealed during interrogation that he had purchased the tablets from medical shops in Mysuru and that he was transporting them to Kozhikode.


He had intended to distribute them among school and college students and workers, Mr. Sunil, who led the team, said.


While each tablet was worth ₹5.75, it was being sold at ₹100 to customers, he said.


The tablets were kept in a paper bag.


The accused was charged under Section 22 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.


The accused was produced at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Mananthavady, and the court remanded him for 14 days in judicial custody.The Hindu
