Goa FDA tightens itself in fighting the menace of spurious and fake medicines in the supply chain in India by opening an office at Bambolim. Director, FDA Goa, Mr.Salim Veljee attempts to curb rampant misuse of antibiotics, leading to antibiotic resistance and the bigger problem of superbugs.
Over the counter sale of 46 drugs has been restricted. This is an applaudable step taken by him as it shall promote the want of a prescription by every patient wishing to purchase medicines henceforth.
The importance of taking a prescription from doctors when one is ill, is still not prevalent in India. PSM India Initiative has always briefed our readers never to pop pills at their own whims. Be careful with your health and always consult a doctor when not in the best of health. Never buy your medications without a prescription from any drug store or from an unauthorized online store as well.
While Goa FDA is spearheading in the right direction. The Ministry of Health,India, has also gone ahead in collaborating with US FDA in the field of medical products. As both countries are world leaders in the field of medicine, there should be common set of standards so that people have quality, safe and efficacious drugs.
This shall go a long way in the patient safety.
